Hand Quilting

A two hour introduction to the art of hand quilting. Students will be taught to "rock the needle" or select a stitching technique that works for them. Discussion of how to make the quilt 'sandwich', a look at choices in quilting designs, and tools for marking the quilt will all be presented.  Fee for two hour class is $20, plus travel reimbursement.

Hand Applique

The art of applique can be taught in three separate workshops: using freezer-paper for a template, template-free applique, and free-form applique. Each class takes 2 hours.  Kits for the class are available for $4 each.  F
ee for two hour class is $25, plus travel reimbursement.

History of Quilts

I have prepared a presentation on the history of quilts from Colonial to current times. Quilts from my collection help to illustrate trends in fabrics and design.  It's fun and there WILL be laughter.
Fee for two hour lecture and quilt showcase is $150, plus travel reimbursement.

For the past two years, I've offered a five-class seminar on quilt history at the Western Institute for Lifelong Learning in Silver City, New Mexico.  Each class deals with a 50-year time segment and examines period quilts, trends in design and dyes, and significant developments in American quilt making. These courses can be adapted to various timeframes and audiences.

Quilt Study Seminars

The quilt study seminar is usually limited to smaller groups. Period quilts will be presented for study by the group.  Information about the trends in design and color as well as historical context will be provided.  A form will be provided for notetaking about the details of the quilts.  Two hour seminar.  Fee is $100, plus travel reimbursement.
